Eastern Phoebes are known for their distinctive FEE-BEE song, but also for the way they constantly wag their tails while perched. It's their way of signalling alertness — telling predators they've been spotted and aren't worth the effort.

This painting features an Eastern Phoebe on one of my favourite cups. I love the gold highlights and delicate detailing — it's a beautiful subject to paint, and to enjoy a morning cuppa from.
